Momona Bakery Breakfast Sandwich – Best Morning Bite in Kahului
If you’re in Kahului and craving a satisfying breakfast, let me tell you about the breakfast sandwich at Momona Bakery and Coffee Shop. This place sits at the same spot where the second location of SIP ME once served caffeine seekers. It’s right on Dairy Road, which makes it easy for a quick bite before heading off to explore the island. Look for a building that looks like a bank with too little parking.
The breakfast sandwich here doesn’t come with any frills, and that’s what makes it stand out. Think of fluffy eggs cooked just right, layered with mozzarella cheese that’s still melting, and bacon that’s cooked until it’s perfectly crisp. They serve it on a soft, freshly baked croissant—not one of those prepackaged things that fall apart. Everything about it feels like it’s been made by someone who knows what mornings are like: sometimes slow and sleepy, and sometimes a rush out the door.
It’s hard to imagine that the island is slow right now when visiting Momona. The line almost went out the door when I went this week. That said, it went quickly and my coffee and food were served at my table quickly too.
Momona occupies a spot that’s seen a lot of change over the years. SIP ME’s old Kahului location was known for its chill vibes, but Momona has transformed the space into something more lively, which honestly works better for this part of town. Many people used it for meetings and as a temporary office (which is what did for a few hours.) Plenty of seating and tables. You can even sit inside the old vault (yes, it used to be a bank!) Parking is a bit of a mess, but once you’re inside, you’ll find friendly staff who get your food out fast—without the fake smile or scripted welcome.
They also serve empanadas, salads, and assorted open-faced toasts. Their smoothies are great and don’t forget: they also serve excellent coffee.
