Java Kai – Kapaʻa, Kauaʻi
If you’re driving through Kapaʻa and spot an old-school turquoise building, stop the car. You’ve just stumbled upon the trendiest coffee shop in Kauai: Java Kai.
Java Kai’s menu is loaded with all your favorite espresso drinks, like lattes, cappuccinos, and cortados. But you can also find delectable specialty drinks like the Shark Bite, with extra espresso, whipped cream, and raspberry drizzle, or the house-made Kai Chai, with chai spices and “cosmic vibes.”
If you’re on the non-dairy train, you’ve got to try Java Kai’s pistachio milk. Insider tip: get a macadamia nut latte with pistachio milk for the nuttiest coffee on Kauai.
In the way of food, Java Kai offers an extensive breakfast and lunch menu with unique options. Bagel sandwiches, acai bowls, and avo toast prevail during breakfast (go for the Dilly Egg Sandwich or Sunrise papaya bowl), while the lunch menu features salads, wraps, and sandwiches. Java Kai’s pastry case is also full of homemade fresh pastries, but you’ll have to get there early to get your hands on one.
Judging by the line out the door every morning and into the afternoon, Java Kai is the place to be in Kapaa. But don’t be intimidated by the wait – Java Kai’s staff makes quick work of the long line.
And while you’re waiting… take the time to browse some of Java Kai’s killer merch – trendy coffee mugs, sweatshirts, tees, hats, and more. And, of course, you can’t pass up on a bag of Java Kai’s locally roasted beans.
Once you’ve ordered, take your fares to-go and enjoy down the street at Kapaa Beach or cozy up at an outdoor table for some top-notch people-watching.
Java Kai is open 6 am to 6 pm Mon-Sat, and 6 am to 5 pm on Sundays. The cafe is located at 4-1384 Kuhio Highway, Kapaa. You can also visit Java Kai’s sister shop, Kai Bar, in Kilauea. Check out their Instagram, @javakaikauai.
